Three services of the Hospital Clínic among the best in the world in the ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals’
The Hospital Clínic Group of Barcelona has had three of its Institutes included in the ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals‘; a classification that recognizes the best hospitals in the world by speciality. The Clinical Cardiovascular Institute (ICCV), led by Dr. Marta Sitges, the Clinical Institute of Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (ICMDM), directed by Dr. Josep Vidal, and the Institute of Hemato-oncological Diseases (ICMHO), with Dr. Álvaro Urbano-Ispizua at the helm, are among the best in the world in their respective specialities according to the list produced annually by Newsweek magazine.

Dr. Fernández-Valencia performs hip replacement surgery without hospitalisation for the first time in Spain
Hospital Clínic de Barcelona has performed, for the first time in Spain, a hip replacement surgery without the need for hospitalisation. Although in recent years it had been possible to cut the hospitalisation time in half (from 7 days to 3.5 days), the operation had not been possible without hospitalising the patient. The intervention was carried out by Dr. Jenaro Fernández-Valencia, from the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service and Head of the Hip Section of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and barnaclínic+. The patient was operated on more than 2 months ago (on July 7th) and has not presented any complications. Read more…

Hospital Clinic, the only hospital to perform robotic cardiovascular surgery in Spain
Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is the only center in Spain that has begun to perform robotic cardiovascular surgeries with the Da Vinci robot. Doctors Daniel Pereda and Elena Sandoval, from the Clínic Cardiovascular Institute, have so far performed 14 interventions with this technique, all of them successful. Most of these interventions were mitral valve repair surgeries. However, this type of intervention offers numerous benefits in the treatment of multiple cardiac pathologies, as stated by Dr. Daniel Pereda, surgeon of the Clinic and barnaclínic+.

A new proposal of COVID-19 diagnosis and its possible effects
In the de-escalation phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in which we find ourselves, it is, and will be, fundamental to correctly diagnose the illness. Furthermore, it is going to be vitally important to identify those persons who have recovered from the illness and its possible post-recovery consequences. Therefore, in barnaclinc+ we have designed various diagnostic protocols for distinct patient profiles: diagnosis of COVID-19 before admittance, confirmation of contact, and evaluation and treatment of the effects post COVID-19.

Four professionals from barnaclinic+ medical staff are present on this list, which brings together 1% of the most cited experts in their specialties. Hospital Clínic chosen as second-best hospital in Spain for the sixth consecutive year
Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is the second best Spanish hospital according to the 2019 Health Reputation Monitor (Monitor de Reputación Sanitaria, MRS). The first place was won by the Hospital Universitario La Paz, while Gregorio Maranon Hospital closes the Top3. The Clinic was also chosen as the best hospital in Spain in the following medical specialties: Gastroenterology, General and Gastrointestinal surgery, Hematology, Nephrology and Pulmonology.

First robot-assisted complex gynecological surgery led by the Hospital Clínic Group
Last October 31st, Dr. Berta Diaz-Feijoo and Dr. Aureli Torné, both professionals at Gynecology barnaclínic+, performed the first robot-assisted complex gynecological surgery of the Hospital Clínic Group of Barcelona. The best liquid biopsy test for patients with advanced cancer arrives at barnaclínic+
From this September, barnaclínic+ Medical Oncology is providing its patients with the best liquid biopsy test currently available for advanced cancer, Guardant-360. Thanks to the agreement between the Medical Oncology and Pathology departments of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and the company Guardant Health, the Clínic will be the first centre in Europe to routinely use one of the most advanced liquid biopsy tests on the market.

International Patient Care Department delegation of the United Arab Emirates visits barnaclínic+
On September 17th, we received an International Patient Care Department (IPCD) Delegation of Department of Health of the United Arab Emirates (DoH), led by its Acting Director Ms Hind Mubarak Al Zaabi framed within the collaboration agreement signed a year ago. During the visit, the IPCD delegation was able to visit our facilities, exchange impressions with some of our professionals and learn about our processes and logistics solutions.
