    Obesity and heart failure: what changes with the new European indication for tirzepatide

    March 4, World Obesity Day, is an opportunity to remember that obesity is not an aesthetic issue but a complex chronic disease with a direct impact on metabolic and cardiovascular health. In this context, the recent extension of the European indication for tirzepatide —the active ingredient of Mounjaro— in patients with obesity and heart failure opens a new therapeutic scenario.

    To understand what this change really means, we spoke with Dr. Jesús Blanco, endocrinologist at barnaclínic+ and the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, and with Dr. Pedro Caravaca, cardiologist specializing in heart failure at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. Both agree on a key point: obesity must now be addressed as a chronic inflammatory disease with systemic consequences, especially for the heart.

    barnaclínic+ is launching “Salud (t) Plus”, a new podcast that invites listeners into the consultation room to share real experiences and health insights, enriched by those who live them firsthand. In each episode, patients, relatives, and professionals from barnaclínic+ sit together to talk about conditions, treatments, and lived experiences, revealing the most human side of medicine.

    The first episode, published on October 15, coincides with the anniversary of Ares Teixidó’s type 1 diabetes diagnosis.     Seven services of the Clínic among the best in the world in the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals’ from Newsweek magazine

    Once again Newsweek magazine has made their ranking of the best hospitals in the world by speciality, the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals’ and the Hospital Clínic Group Barcelona has played an important role in it. The ranking from this year 2022 has for the first time widened the number of specialities analysed from seven to ten, and the Hospital Clínic Group has managed to have some of their services in up to seven of these categories.

    Three services of the Hospital Clínic among the best in the world in the ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals’

    The Hospital Clínic Group of Barcelona has had three of its Institutes included in the ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals‘; a classification that recognizes the best hospitals in the world by speciality. The Clinical Cardiovascular Institute (ICCV), led by Dr. Marta Sitges, the Clinical Institute of Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (ICMDM), directed by Dr. Josep Vidal, and the Institute of Hemato-oncological Diseases (ICMHO), with Dr. Álvaro Urbano-Ispizua at the helm, are among the best in the world in their respective specialities according to the list produced annually by Newsweek magazine.
