    barnaclínic+ offers a new alternative for atrial fibrillation: electroporation

    Until relatively recently, there were only two techniques for the treatment of atrial fibrillation: radiofrequency and cryoablation. A third alternative has recently been added to them, electroporation. The Hospital Clínic Barcelona, ​​an international reference in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias, is one of the pioneers in the application of electroporation, being the first centre in Catalonia to incorporate this new technology.     Nine services of the Clínic are among the best in the world in the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals’ of 2023

    Newsweek magazine in collaboration with the statistical portal Statista Inc. publishes each year a ranking of the best hospitals in the world by speciality, the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals 2023’. As usual, the Barcelona Clínic Group has stood out as one of the best hospitals in the world and our country, and has achieved outstanding positions in nine of the eleven categories that were analysed this year. The best-positioned department was Urology, led by Dr Antonio Alcaraz, who was also a novelty in this edition’s ranking. In this way, the Clinical Institute of Nephrology and Urology (ICNU) has achieved the 14th position in the ranking, also being the second-best service in Spain, only behind the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid.

    Seven services of the Clínic among the best in the world in the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals’ from Newsweek magazine

    Once again Newsweek magazine has made their ranking of the best hospitals in the world by speciality, the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals’ and the Hospital Clínic Group Barcelona has played an important role in it. The ranking from this year 2022 has for the first time widened the number of specialities analysed from seven to ten, and the Hospital Clínic Group has managed to have some of their services in up to seven of these categories.

    The Hospital Clínic Group of Barcelona has had three of its Institutes included in the ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals‘; a classification that recognizes the best hospitals in the world by speciality. The Clinical Cardiovascular Institute (ICCV), led by Dr. Marta Sitges, the Clinical Institute of Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (ICMDM), directed by Dr. Josep Vidal, and the Institute of Hemato-oncological Diseases (ICMHO), with Dr. Álvaro Urbano-Ispizua at the helm, are among the best in the world in their respective specialities according to the list produced annually by Newsweek magazine.

    Hospital Clinic, the only hospital to perform robotic cardiovascular surgery in Spain

    Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is the only center in Spain that has begun to perform robotic cardiovascular surgeries with the Da Vinci robot. Doctors Daniel Pereda and Elena Sandoval, from the Clínic Cardiovascular Institute, have so far performed 14 interventions with this technique, all of them successful. Most of these interventions were mitral valve repair surgeries. However, this type of intervention offers numerous benefits in the treatment of multiple cardiac pathologies, as stated by Dr. Daniel Pereda, surgeon of the Clinic and barnaclínic+.

    The Clinic’s Cardiovascular Surgery performs two heart transplants simultaneously

    The Cardiovascular Surgery Department of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona led by Dr Manuel Castellà has, for the first time, performed two heart transplants simultaneously. Although only one of them was planned and two heart transplants had never been performed simultaneously, the result of both surgeries has been “very satisfactory”.
