Nine services of the Clínic are among the best in the world in the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals’ of 2023

Newsweek magazine in collaboration with the statistical portal Statista Inc. publishes each year a ranking of the best hospitals in the world by speciality, the ‘World’s Best Specialised Hospitals 2023’. As usual, the Barcelona Clínic Group has stood out as one of the best hospitals in the world and our country, and has achieved outstanding positions in nine of the eleven categories that were analysed this year. The best-positioned department was Urology, led by Dr Antonio Alcaraz, who was also a novelty in this edition’s ranking. In this way, the Clinical Institute of Nephrology and Urology (ICNU) has achieved the 14th position in the ranking, also being the second-best service in Spain, only behind the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid.

The Clínic Cardiovascular Institute (ICV), directed by Dr Marta Sitges, was ranked 38th in the list of best cardiology services, while Dr Manuel Castellà’s Cardiovascular Surgery Service was ranked 35th among cardiac surgery services. For its part, the Clinical Institute of Medical and Surgical Specialties (ICEMEQ), led by Dr Josep Maria Segur, achieved 41st place in the Orthopaedics ranking with the Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Service, led by Dr Pere Torner.

The Clinical Institute of Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (ICMDM), whose director is Dr Josep Vidal, achieved double recognition once again on this list. On the one hand, it ranked the Gastroenterology service, directed by Dr Francesc Balaguer, at number 51. On the other, the Endocrinology service has been located at number 59. In addition, the Clinical Institute of Neurosciences (ICN), directed by Dr Josefina Castro, has achieved the 75th position in the Neurology classification and the Clinical Institute of Hematological and Oncological Diseases, directed by Dr Álvaro Urbano, ranked number 90 in Oncology. Lastly, the Respiratory Clinic Institute (ICR), headed by Dr Joan Ramon Badia, managed to position itself as 122nd in Pneumology.

A RANKING THAT RECOGNIZES THE BEST HOSPITALS IN THE WORLD BY SPECIALTY

This ranking, which presents the best hospital services in the world, is the result of a collaboration between Newsweek magazine and the statistical portal Statista Inc. To prepare it, more than 40,000 medical experts were invited — including doctors, hospital directors and health professionals. health — to participate in online surveys through which they were able to recommend and evaluate various hospitals within their respective specialities.

The results of this survey were subsequently validated by a world council of renowned medical experts. Currently, the ranking includes the 300 best hospitals in the world in Cardiology and Oncology, the 200 best in Paediatrics, the 150 best in Cardiac Surgery and Endocrinology, and the 125 best in Gastroenterology, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pulmonology, and Urology.

A mention in the ranking is positive recognition based on peer recommendations and publicly available data sources at the time. The ranking is the result of an elaborate process that, due to the data collection and analysis interval, is a reflection of the last calendar year.
