What is an arrhythmia and what are its symptoms?
A cardiac arrhythmia is an alteration of the heart’s normal rhythm. It can cause the heart to beat too fast (tachycardia), too slowly (bradycardia) or irregularly.
In many cases, arrhythmias may go unnoticed. However, in other situations they can cause symptoms that require evaluation by a heart rhythm specialist.
Main symptoms of cardiac arrhythmias
· Palpitations or a sensation of irregular heartbeat
· Dizziness or vertigo
· Unexplained tiredness or fatigue
· Chest pain
· Shortness of breath
· Loss of consciousness or fainting
Recognizing the symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia and understanding when an arrhythmia may be serious is essential to prevent complications such as stroke, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
It is also important to distinguish between arrhythmia and tachycardia, and to identify the symptoms of cardiac arrhythmias in women, which can sometimes go unnoticed.

How can we help you?
At barnaclínic+ we treat all types of cardiac arrhythmias, from mild to highly complex cases. Each case is evaluated individually to determine whether the arrhythmia requires treatment or whether it is a benign arrhythmia.
We also help patients with anxiety-related arrhythmias, athletes who want to know whether it is safe to exercise with an arrhythmia, and individuals seeking a specialized second opinion.

Diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias
Our multidisciplinary team is highly specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. We provide comprehensive care for all types of patients, whether they are seeking a second opinion or require follow-up after a previous ablation procedure.
Advanced arrhythmia diagnosis
We offer a wide range of tests to evaluate the origin and behavior of heart rhythm disorders:
Consultation with cardiologists specialized in cardiac arrhythmias
Electrocardiogram (ECG) and extended Holter monitoring
Event monitoring / implantable loop recorder
Exercise stress testing and autonomic function testing
Electrophysiology study (EPS)
We also incorporate advanced non-invasive cardiac mapping technologies, which allow us to reconstruct the electrical map of the heart and analyze cardiac electrical activity with high precision.
These tools can be particularly useful in patients with complex arrhythmias, helping to identify the origin of rhythm disturbances and to plan treatments such as cardiac ablation.
Personalized arrhythmia treatments
Once the diagnosis has been established, we design a personalized arrhythmia treatment plan tailored to each patient.
Available treatment options include:
Antiarrhythmic medications
Electrical cardioversion
Pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
Catheter ablation for arrhythmias
We also offer in-person or remote follow-up, especially for patients who have undergone ablation procedures or who carry implantable cardiac devices.
In addition, our team includes internationally recognized cardiac surgeons and interventional specialists for the treatment of complex arrhythmias requiring advanced procedures, such as epicardial ablation or surgery for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Marfan syndrome: symptoms, diagnosis and specialized treatment at barnaclínic+
The Marfan Syndrome is a rare hereditary disease that affects the connective tissue — the “support structure” that keeps organs, blood vessels, and bones together. When this tissue does not function properly, it can cause alterations in different parts of the body, especially in the cardiovascular system. As explained by Dr. Elena Arbelo, cardiologist at […] La entrada Marfan syndrome: symptoms, diagnosis and specialized treatment at barnaclínic+ aparece primero en Blog de Cardiología y Cirugía Vascular.

Cardiomyopathies: heart muscle diseases we can treat today
Cardiomyopathies are a group of diseases that affect the heart muscle. Some of them are genetic, meaning they can be inherited and affect several members of the same family—what we refer to as genetic or inherited heart conditions. At barnaclínic+, we treat these diseases with a comprehensive approach: accurate diagnosis, personalized follow-up, and genetic screening […] La entrada Cardiomyopathies: heart muscle diseases we can treat today aparece primero en Blog de Cardiología y Cirugía Vascular.
