The Healthcare Reputation Monitor (MRS) by Merco has been evaluating the reputation of key players in the Spanish healthcare sector for over a decade. This includes the best hospitals in Spain, both public and private, the top pharmaceutical companies, and the best healthcare services, among others. It serves as a benchmark to help patients identify excellence in healthcare. Since last year, this monitor also compiles a list of the best doctors in Spain, and in the 2024 edition, barnaclínic+ professionals have played a significant role.

  Dr. Josep Brugada is recognized among the top cardiovascular experts in the country, reaffirming his reputation and experience, once again securing a place among the top ten best cardiologists in Spain.

• Dermatology

  Dr. Susana Puig and Dr. José Manuel Mascaró are recognized for their dedication to skin health. Both were also featured in the list of the best dermatologists in 2023.

• Pulmonology

  Dr. Àlvar Agustí is acknowledged as the leading expert in respiratory diseases, maintaining the top spot among the best pulmonologists in Spain.

• Neurology

  Dr. Francesc Graus joins the ranking of the best neurologists in Spain, recognized for his growing influence and contributions to the field.

• Ophthalmology

  Dr. Alfredo Adán strengthens his position as a leading expert in eye health, climbing from fifth place last year to third as the best ophthalmologist in Spain in this edition.

• Medical Oncology

  Dr. Aleix Prat stands out in the fight against cancer, solidifying his leadership in medical oncology.

• Otolaryngology

  This specialty has shown remarkable results. Dr. Manuel Bernal Sprekelsen has climbed from third place to be ranked the second best otolaryngologist in Spain. Meanwhile, Dr. Isam Alobid has made significant progress, moving from tenth to sixth place.

• Urology

  Dr. Antonio Alcaraz remains the absolute leader in his specialty, holding onto the top spot among the best urologists in Spain.

What is the MRS Ranking?

The MRS Ranking is an initiative led by Merco, recognizing the effort and excellence of specialist doctors in various fields. The methodology combines quantitative and qualitative evaluations based on professional trajectory, innovation in treatments, and patient satisfaction, among other indicators. Thanks to this evaluation, the ranking not only highlights the individual work of each specialist but also reflects the evolution and dynamism of the healthcare sector in Spain.

Within the same MRS survey, specialists themselves (6,060 doctors) and more than 100 pharmaceutical company executives select their peers who, in their opinion, are the best healthcare professionals in 32 medical specialties.

The monitoring and verification of the ranking process and results undergo independent review by KPMG, following the ISAE 3000 standard, which publishes its report for each edition. All weighting criteria are public. Due to its ethical values and methodology, it is the reference ranking for doctors and scientific societies.
