barnaclínic+ addresses electroporation as a new treatment for atrial fibrillation on the “Salud (t) Plus” podcast
Following the first episode of “Salud (t) Plus”, the barnaclínic+ podcast that launched the format with the real-life experience of Ares Teixidó, who shared how she has learned to live with type 1 diabetes, this new episode focuses on electroporation, an innovative treatment for atrial fibrillation, one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias. Through a patient’s testimony and the medical team’s experience, the podcast brings this new ablation technique closer and explores its real impact on quality of life. The protagonist of the episode is Montserrat Bel, a barnaclínic+ patient, who explains first-hand how she has lived for years with episodes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, the constant fear caused by the unpredictability of symptoms, and the emotional and physical impact this has had on her daily life. She is joined in this conversation by Dr. Ivo Roca and Dr. Andreu Porta, specialists in Cardiology at barnaclínic+, who clearly explain what electroporation is and its role as an alternative to conventional ablation techniques.

What is electroporation and how it can improve the treatment of atrial fibrillation
During this episode, the specialists explain what electroporation consists of, how it differs from other arrhythmia ablation techniques, and why it represents a step forward in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. “It is a different type of energy from what we had been using until now to perform ablation”, explains Dr. Andreu Porta. “Traditionally, we destroyed tissue using cold or heat, radiofrequency or cryoablation. Although these are safe techniques with good results, they can affect tissues surrounding the heart”. With electroporation, however, a much more selective energy targeting the cardiac muscle has been achieved, allowing direct action on the heart without affecting surrounding structures and with a high safety profile.
“It targets the heart directly, does not heat surrounding structures, and offers results that are just as good—or even slightly better—with a higher safety profile”
Dr. Andreu Porta
In addition, it is a relatively straightforward procedure with a fast recovery, which helps improve the patient’s overall experience after the intervention.

barnaclínic+ offers a new alternative for atrial fibrillation: electroporation
Although electroporation is a relatively new technique—with several years of development—barnaclínic+ has made a clear commitment to being a pioneer in its application. “The results are very promising, but the most important thing is to have all available tools to personalize treatment according to each patient’s needs and address atrial fibrillation in the best possible way”, conclude the specialists.
“I always explain this to patients: medications may seem safer because we are not puncturing anything, but they can also cause problems and, above all, they do not cure the arrhythmia—they only suppress it. When medication is withdrawn, it often reappears. Electroporation helps many patients feel more at ease when undergoing ablation, because it is a technique with an added level of safety”

Salud (t) Plus”: a human and real perspective on health
With this episode, “Salud (t) Plus” continues to reinforce barnaclínic+’s commitment to person-centered medicine, combining medical innovation, scientific rigor, and real-life experiences. Each episode brings health, research, and patient experience closer to society, giving a voice to stories that help better understand each diagnosis and treatment.
