Ultrasonic rhinoplasty: greater precision, better recovery and aesthetic result
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is a surgical nasal reshaping technique in which high precision ultrasonic saws and files are used. This technique has allowed greater control when shaping and cutting the nasal bones. In addition, it enables the surgeon to preserve vital structures of the nasal dorsum with the intention of obtaining natural results (preservative rhinoplasty). All this allows a better aesthetic result, a faster recovery and fewer complications in the postoperative period.
WHAT DOES “ULTRASONIC” MEAN?
The ultrasonic system uses a tool called a piezotome that generates ultrasonic energy, which is very focused on hard structures without damaging the soft tissues. Thanks to this, ultrasound in no way burns or injures the skin.
WHEN IS ULTRASONIC RHINOPLASTY USED?
Ultrasonic technology can be used for any type of rhinoplasty, as different types of highly specialized saws have been developed for each type of nose. Above all, it is used in those interventions in which we want to preserve the structures to the maximum. The goal of preserving vital structures is to give the most natural appearance possible at the end of the surgery.

WHAT DOES THE INTERVENTION CONSIST OF?
Ultrasonic rhinoplsty is performed under general anesthesia. It is done in this way for the convenience of both the surgeon and the patient. The intervention lasts between two and a half hours and three hours approximately.
WHAT IS THE POSTOPERATIVE AND RECOVERY PERIOD OF ULTRASONIC RHINOPLASTY LIKE?
After ultrasonic rhinoplasty and during the first three days, swelling of the face may occur. However, there will be less purple around the eyes than with conventional rhinoplasty, and after this time, the face will practically return to its natural appearance. Thus, this technique generates less trauma and allows a more bearable postoperative and recovery period. for the patient who, in a short time, will be able to return to normal activity. Thus, recovery will be faster, both in terms of cosmetic result and return to activity.

It must be remembered that the patient must be at home for the first few days in relative rest. You can go out for a short walk and lead a practically normal life. You will only need to keep the nasal tamponade and splint in place for a few weeks. Obviously, during this time, you should avoid activities that could risk a blow to the nose.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF ULTRASONIC RHINOPLASTY?
In expert hands, the results of ultrasonic rhinoplasty are similar to those of the conventional technique. However, by generating a more precise cut, the healing will be “more targeted”, which in turn will allow a better final result (and thus minimising the possibility of aberrant scarring, which would require some postoperative retouching.)
DOES ULTRASONIC RHINOPLASTY CARRY ANY RISK?
The risks of ultrasonic rhinoplasty are minimal and similar to those of the conventional technique. In general, the greatest risk of rhinoplasty is an unsatisfactory result for the patient.
ADVANTAGES OF ULTRASONIC RHINOPLASTY
- Greater precision when sculpting the nose: It more precisely reshapes the nose bone avoiding unwanted fractures even in unstable fragile bones.
- Less tissue trauma: Less trauma translates into less edema, swelling and facial ecchymosis (bruises on the face). These side effects appear frequently in conventional rhinoplasty and are one of its main drawbacks.
- More stable and natural results: Structural changes can be made with fewer asymmetries and irregularities, thus ensuring permanent changes over time.
- Much faster recovery: With less trauma, patients rejoin their normal lives in a much shorter period of time.
