· Leadership in the writing of more than 75 clinical guidelines, including those of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the American Thoracic Society (ATS).
· Consulting physician to the current King of Saudi Arabia.
· Internationally recognised as a leading figure in the field of respiratory infections and critical lung diseases.
· European Respiratory Society (ERS) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024, in recognition of his international impact on the management of respiratory infections and his contribution to setting new global standards in clinical practice.

RESEARCH
· Author of more than 1,250 indexed scientific publications, with more than 70,000 citations, and more than 400 reviews and 100 editorials.
· H index of 127 according to Scopus, which places him as one of the most cited and influential researchers in pulmonology in the world.
· He has led the implementation of innovative clinical practices and therapies based on studies conducted in a porcine animal model. This model simulates the conditions of a patient in the ICU and has been recognized as a global reference tool.
· Coordinator of European and international projects such as CIBERESUCICOVID, one of the key programs in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
· Keynote speaker at more than 1,170 international conferences.
· Associate editor of prestigious scientific journals such as European Respiratory Journal, Thorax, European Respiratory Review, Intensive Care Medicine or Journal Medical Sciences.
