It is also one of the most common gynaecological conditions.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/en\/professionals\/453\/meritxell\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/womens-health\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/meritxell-gracia.png\" alt=\"Dra. Meritxell Gracia - ginecolog\u00eda\" width=\"90\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<h4>&#8220;Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumour in women of reproductive age and represent one of the most common gynaecological conditions&#8221;<\/h4>\n<p>Dra.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/en\/professionals\/453\/meritxell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Meritxell Gracia<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong>UTERINE FIBROID SYMPTOMS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Most fibroids are asymptomatic<\/strong> and are detected by chance during a gynaecological consultation. Symptoms may arise in 25-50% of cases, in the form of bleeding, pain, compression and fertility problems.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>main uterine fibroid symptoms<\/strong> are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><u>Abnormal uterine bleeding<\/u><\/strong> consisting of changes in the amount and duration of bleeding, which may be associated with anaemia<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Abdominal pressure &#8211; discomfort<\/u><\/strong>: compression of neighbouring organs resulting in urinary and\/or bowel problems<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Pain<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Reproductive problems<\/u><\/strong> principally associated with <strong>submucosal fibroids<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>TREATMENT OF UTERINE FIBROIDS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There are two forms of <strong>uterine fibroid<\/strong> treatment: medical treatment or surgery.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong><u>medical treatment<\/u> of uterine fibroids<\/strong> primarily consists of hormonal preparations (oral contraceptives, IUDs, progestin, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>The level of <strong><u>surgical treatment<\/u><\/strong> may vary depending on the involvement and the patient&#8217;s future reproductive plans.\n<ul>\n<li><strong><u>Myomectomy<\/u><\/strong>, or <strong>removal of the uterine fibroid<\/strong>, will be the treatment of choice for symptomatic women who wish to preserve their uterus on reproductive grounds or owing to personal preferences.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Hysterectomy<\/u><\/strong>, or <strong>complete removal of the uterus<\/strong>, will be the option of choice in cases in which women do not wish to preserve their fertility and have been duly informed of the risks, advantages and alternatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>WHEN IS SURGERY RECOMMENDED?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Uterine fibroid surgery<\/strong> is particularly recommended when the patient exhibits symptoms,\u00a0if the fibroid causes discomfort or if it is related to the patient&#8217;s infertility.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">At our centre, we prioritise the use of <strong>minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of uterine fibroids<\/strong>. In most cases, and whenever possible, vaginally or laparoscopically. The reason for this approach is that the use of less invasive techniques offers better recovery and a lower rate of complications.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/en\/professionals\/461\/blanca\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/womens-health\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/blanca-gil.png\" alt=\"Dra.
