It usually has two origins: the peritoneum itself (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pseudomyxoma_peritonei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pseudomyxoma<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mesothelioma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mesothelioma<\/a>) and <strong>digestive tract<\/strong> or <strong>gynecological tumors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>TREATMENT FOR PERITONEAL CARCINOMATOSIS<\/h2>\n<p>Techniques such as the <strong>Peritonectomy<\/strong> and <strong>Hyperthermic Peritoneal Perfusion<\/strong> have brought about a revolution in the <strong>treatment of patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis<\/strong>, previously considered terminal, as <strong>5-year survival rates of over 70% have been achieved<\/strong> in some of these conditions with an excellent quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>Patients with\u00a0<strong>Peritoneal carcinomatosis<\/strong>, who were previously considered to be terminal with a life expectancy of less than 3 months, may now <strong>undergo cytoreductive surgery<\/strong> (<strong>Peritonectomy<\/strong>) and then <strong>Hyperthermic Peritoneal Perfusion<\/strong> with chemotherapy drugs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Cytoreductive surgery or Peritonectomy<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cytoreductive surgery or Peritonectomy<\/strong>\u00a0is based on the complete removal of all the parietal peritoneum and tumor nodules from the visceral peritoneum, often with the resection of the affected organs (colon, stomach, spleen and rectum).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Hyperthermic Peritoneal Perfusion<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Hyperthermic Peritoneal Perfusion<\/strong>\u00a0involves placing 4 cannulae in the abdominal cavity after the <strong>Peritonectomy<\/strong>. Close the abdominal cavity and connect the cannulae to a pump (Performer\u00ae) using an extracorporeal circulation circuit.<\/p>\n<p>This is to achieve <strong>hyperthermia in the abdominal cavity<\/strong> (40-41\u00baC) and then administer chemotherapy drugs for 60-90 minutes (according to the type of tumor).<\/p>\n<p>This technique is called <strong>Hyperthermia with Closed Abdomen<\/strong>.
