He leads the research group in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idibaps.org\/research\/team\/607\/genetic-and-urological-tumours\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Genetics and urologic tumors<\/em><\/a>\u00a0 at the <strong>Institut d&#8217;Investigacions Biom\u00e8diques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS)<\/strong> and is a <strong>Professor of Urology<\/strong> in the surgery department at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/web\/ub\/en\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>University of Barcelona<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cA passionate person&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He describes himself as &#8220;passionate&#8221; and acknowledges transmitting the trait of his personality in everything he does, &#8220;including in surgery&#8221;. That passion has led him to search for new ways of operating and new surgical techniques.\u00a0 Dr. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/en_profesionales\/272\/antonio\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Antonio Alcaraz<\/strong><\/a> has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\">a world pioneer in the use of<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>laparoscopic and minimally invasive robotic surgery techniques<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\"> applied to <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\"><strong>urology<\/strong><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\">and <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\"><strong>renal transplantation<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cThe patient is the centre of everything&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Dr. Alcaraz &#8220;the patient is the centre of everything and everything should revolve around them&#8221;.\u00a0 This premise has motivated him to develop <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\">new <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/cirugia-robotica-trasplante-renal\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>minimally invasive surgical methods<\/strong><\/a> which, he says &#8220;leave practically no scars and offer a fantastic recovery&#8221;. And it is that as a surgeon, he considers that he must work with the latest technological advances, &#8220;but without losing sight of the historical references and doing good surgery&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cSurgery is 80% science and 20% art&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/en_profesionales\/272\/antonio\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Antonio Alcaraz<\/strong><\/a> believes that &#8220;surgery is 80% science and 20% art&#8221;.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t just involved science, knowledge and technological advances; for him, a very important part of his work is eminently creative, and he states: \u201cit has more to do with art&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cA really promising future\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His team recently conducted the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnaclinic.com\/blog\/blog\/trasplante-renal-via-vaginal\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>first full kidney transplant through the vagina in the world<\/strong><\/a>, something that was impossible five years ago. Dr. Alcaraz beleives this achievement will seem small in comparison with what will be attained within the next five years.
