The integrated neurosurgery operating<\/strong><\/a> room<\/strong> has recently been renovated to continue offering the latest and best technology in intraoperative imaging<\/strong>. In this case, angiography\/computed tomography (CT)<\/strong> equipment has been incorporated into the facilities, a new tool that allows for further improvement of both patient safety and the efficiency of interventions and which has been acquired thanks to European Union funds through the Investment Plan in High Technology Equipment (INVEAT). Thanks to this new equipment, the integrated neurosurgery operating room<\/strong> significantly improves its performance and thus increases its quality of care. \u201cWith the new angiogram we manage, on the one hand, to improve patient safety during interventions and minimize the risk of complications, and on the other we manage to be more effective. All of this has a direct impact on the patient\u201d, explains Dr Joaquim Ense\u00f1at<\/strong><\/a>, head of the Neurosurgery<\/a> Service at Hospital Cl\u00ednic and neurosurgeon at barnacl\u00ednic+.<\/p>\n

IN WHICH INTERVENTIONS WILL THE NEW ANGIOGRAPH\/COMPUTERED TOMOGRAPHY BE USED?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A CT angiograph<\/strong> is an important tool in the field of neurosurgery<\/a>, as it provides detailed information about the blood vessels in the brain and central nervous system. Some of the key applications in neurosurgery are the following:<\/p>\n

  1. Treatment of vascular malformations<\/u><\/strong>: The angiogram allows the identification of arteriovenous malformations (AVM), cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous fistulas and other vascular anomalies in the brain. These images provide a clear view of the location, size and shape of malformations, helping neurosurgeons plan and perform surgical interventions that may or may not be combined with mixed angioradiology procedures.<\/li>\n
  2. Spine surgery<\/strong>: This scopy\/CT system allows us to make 3D images of the spine, guiding us where to place the screws in instrumented spine surgery procedures. This improves the results and reduces re-interventions and complications of said surgeries.<\/li>\n
  3. Postoperative evaluation<\/u><\/strong>: After a surgical intervention, CT angiogram can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the surgery and check whether a vascular malformation or aneurysm has been completely removed. Additionally, it can help detect any complications or postoperative bleeding.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Cutting-edge equipment<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    This new addition of a CT angiogram<\/strong> is another example of the Hospital Cl\u00ednic Group\u2019s concern to maintain its commitment to technological innovation. \u201cThis is just one more tool we have in our operating room. Also, in it we have many other tools that help us and that help us treat a wide range of pathologies\u201d, adds Dr Ense\u00f1at.<\/p>\n

    Thus, other tools that stand out are the robotic visualisation platform for neurosurgery<\/a>, which incorporates different functionalities that facilitate intelligent positioning of the surgeon, reduce manual movements and allow better visualisation of the area of the brain being operated on, and the intraoperative ultrasound,<\/a> which allows highly complex interventions to be carried out with minimally invasive techniques.<\/p>\n
