From the year 2001, Clarivate Analytics<\/a> has published their \u2018Highly Cited Researchers\u2019 <\/a>ranking. It\u2019s a list which identifies the most influential researchers in the world<\/strong> and to form part of it you must find yourself among the 1% of most cited authors per field and year in the Web of Science. It\u2019s one of the most prestigious classifications among the international academic and scientific community<\/strong>. And on this list of the best scientists in the world 2021<\/strong> once again there are four professionals at barnacl\u00ednic+<\/a>: Dr. Josep Dalmau<\/a><\/strong>, Dr. Ramon Estruch<\/a><\/strong>, Dr. Francesc Graus<\/a><\/strong> and Dr. Eduard Vieta<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the list published this year as well as those professionals there are also four scientists from the Hospital Cl\u00ednic IDIBAPS<\/a>: Dr. Jordi Bruix<\/a>, Dr. Josep M. Llovet<\/a>, Dr. Joaquim Radu\u00e1<\/a> and Dr. Emili Ros<\/a>. There are also three researchers from University of Barcelona<\/a> on the list: Cristina Andres-Lacueva, Rosa M. Lamuela-Ravent\u00f3s and Ai Koyanagi.<\/p>\n

A LIST OF GREAT PRESTIGE<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On the list for the year 2021 there are the 6,602 most relevant researchers in the world<\/strong> in 21 scientific and social-science fields. Of them, 3,774 figure on the list of specific fields and close to 2,828 on the Cross-Field section, a transversal category that identifies the authors that have had a substantial influence on several fields during the last decade. In the best scientists in the world ranking<\/strong> from this year there are 109 researchers that work in Spanish institutions, which makes up 1.7% of the total and means that Spain occupies 9th place among the countries with high ranking researchers, staying in the top 10 for the fourth year in a row.<\/p>\n

On this list there are 24 Nobel Prize winners, among them there are five stated this very year: David Julius, from the University of California San Francisco<\/a> (United States) and Ardem Patapoutian, from the Scripps Research Institute La Jolla<\/a> (United States), both Nobel Prize winners in medicine; David W.C. MacMillan, from Princeton University<\/a> (United States) with a Nobel Prize in chemistry, and David Card, from the University of California Berkeley<\/a> (United States) and Guido Imbens, from Stanford University<\/a> (United States) with a Nobel Prize in economics. There are also 77 Clarivate Analytics Citation Laureates<\/a> included, people who, via citation analysis, this company has identified as \u201cNobel level\u201d researchers and potential future winners of this prestigious prize.<\/p>\n

THE MOST CITED SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES IN THE WORLD<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Clarivate Analytics list is centred on the scientific articles that are found in the 1% most cited per field and year in the Web of Science (The Highly Cited Papers). This year they\u2019ve taken into account the articles published in the 11 year period spanning January 2010 to December 2020. This international classification is also a key component of many rankings on a global scale in the university world, such as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)<\/a>, better known as the Shanghai ranking.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Dr. Josep Dalmau<\/strong> is a neurology, neuroimmunology, neurology, paraneoplastic syndrome and <\/strong>autoimmune encephalitis<\/strong><\/a> specialist. As well as being a specialist in Neurology<\/a> at barnacl\u00ednic+, he is the director of the Pathogenesis of neuronal autoimmune disease<\/a> research group at the August Pi and Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS)<\/a> in the Hospital Cl\u00ednic, whose objective is the study of autoimmune\/inflammatory diseases of the brain such as multiple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis<\/a> and paraneoplastic syndrome at the University of Barcelona<\/a> and professor of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania <\/a>in the United States. He is also an ICREA researcher.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ramon Estruch<\/strong> is a specialist in the Internal Medicine<\/strong> Service<\/a> barnacl\u00ednic+ and Senior Consultant in the same service at Hospital Cl\u00ednic Barcelona<\/a>. He is also head of the research group Cardiovascular, nutrition and aging risk<\/a> at IDIBAPS<\/a>. Through this group he has carried out several clinical studies that evaluate the impact that the Mediterranean diet has on health and with which he hopes to find the tools to prevent the appearance of cardiovascular disease and the risk factors associated such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension or obesity. He is also professor of the Medical Faculty at the\u00a0University of Barcelona<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The research carried out in this group centred on understanding bipolar and depression syndromes<\/strong> and the corresponding improvement in clinical practice. The group has contributed to increasing the availability of new medicine for bipolar and depression syndromes via the design and carrying out of clinical trials that have facilitated the introduction of new focuses for the pharmacological treatment of these diseases.<\/p>\n
