On December the 10th, the new surgical area of<\/strong> the Clinical Institute of Ophthalmology (ICOF)<\/a><\/strong>, of the\u00a0Hospital Cl\u00ednic de Barcelona<\/a> Group, was inaugurated. These are facilities that have the latest technology in this speciality and allow highly complex surgical treatments; with better results, greater precision and better post-operative services. In addition, with the construction of the Eye Training Centre Clinic<\/strong><\/a>, the Ophthalmology Service<\/strong><\/a> will combine surgical, educational and training activities in a single space.<\/p>\n

A NEW OPHTHALMOLOGY SURGICAL AREA, DESIGNED FOR THE COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE OF PATIENTS AND PROFESSIONALS<\/h2>\n

The new\u00a0Ophthalmology<\/a> surgical area<\/strong> has four operating rooms spread over more than 1,000 square metres. All of them are equipped with the latest technology, as explained by Dr. Alfredo Ad\u00e1n<\/a><\/strong>, Director of the\u00a0ICOF<\/a><\/strong>, they have also “been designed for the convenience and comfort of patients and professionals.” It is a spacious, bright and warm area that will host around 30 surgeries a day. As Dr. Adan explains: \u201cOphthalmological interventions<\/strong> do not require admission and the ophthalmological patient<\/strong> has specific characteristics derived from their age. For this reason, in the new ophthalmology surgical area<\/strong>, it was crucial to take maximum care of the design and enhance the feeling of comfort: the spaces are spacious, with architectural warmth and natural light.\u201d<\/p>\n

THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY FOR BETTER RESULTS IN OPHTHALMOLOGICAL SURGERY<\/h2>\n

As we have said, the new <\/strong>ophthalmology<\/strong> surgical area<\/strong> is equipped with the latest technology that exists in the speciality. The new infrastructures will make it possible to perform: cataract surgery<\/u><\/strong><\/a> with femtosecond laser<\/strong>, next-generation intraocular implants<\/strong>, retinal micro-incision surgery<\/strong>, corneal transplantation<\/u><\/a>, treatment<\/u><\/a> and surgery for glaucoma with micro-implants<\/a>.<\/strong> In addition, it has 3D visualisation technology with hyper-reality<\/strong> that guarantees greater precision in surgery, better visualisation and, therefore, better results. The operating rooms will also have an intraoperative microscope with OCT <\/strong>(Optical Coherence Tomography) that will provide information during surgery and will also help improve precision, post-operative results and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

The new\u00a0Ophthalmology<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0surgical area<\/strong> also has Estimtrack\u00ae technology<\/a>, already present in the barnacl\u00ednic+ Hospitalization Room and in other operating rooms of the Hospital Cl\u00ednic. It is an application that offers information on the status of the surgery in real time. Thanks to Estimtrack\u00ae<\/a>, family members can know the patient’s situation at all times, reducing anxiety during the waiting time and helping to improve the processes and efficiency of the intervention and the surgical area.<\/p>\n

NEW OPHTHALMOLOGY SURGICAL AREA AND CLINIC EYE TRAINING CENTRE: ASSISTANCE AND TRAINING IN A SINGLE SPACE<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Once the construction of the new ophthalmology surgical block<\/strong> has been concluded, the new training and teaching area called the\u00a0Cl\u00ednic Eye Training Centre<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will proceed. In mid-2021, according to Dr. Alfredo Ad\u00e1n<\/a><\/strong>: “The Cl\u00ednic will become the first hospital to have a space dedicated to care, innovation and training in\u00a0Ophthalmology<\/a><\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

The joint presence of the surgical block and the new Cl\u00ednic Eye Training Centre<\/strong> will allow students to carry out ‘in situ’ practices and see live surgeries performed in the new surgical block. In addition, direct communication between the new operating rooms, the outpatient clinics and the CETC laboratories will create a continuous flow between diagnosis, first aid and surgical treatment.<\/p>\n
