As it does every year,\u00a0Clarivate Analytics<\/em><\/a>\u00a0publishes\u00a0Highly Cited Researchers<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>the list of the most influential scientists in the world<\/strong>. And, once again this year, it features leading professionals from the barnacl\u00ednic+<\/strong> medical team<\/strong><\/a>. On this occasion, it includes Drs\u00a0Josep Dalmau<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Ram\u00f3n Estruch<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Francesc Graus<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Eduard Tolosa<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Eduard Vieta<\/strong><\/a>.

Hospital Cl\u00ednic – IDIBAPS staff<\/h2>\n

In addition to those already mentioned, other professionals in the Hospital Cl\u00ednic \u2013 IDIBAPS Group are also included on the list. These are: Vicente Arroyo<\/strong>,\u00a0Joan Blad\u00e9<\/strong>,\u00a0Jordi Bruix<\/strong>,\u00a0El\u00edas Campo<\/strong>,\u00a0Josep M. Llovet<\/strong>,\u00a0Juli\u00e0 Pan\u00e9s<\/strong>,\u00a0Joaquim Radua<\/strong> and\u00a0Emili Ros<\/strong>. Three researchers from the University of Barcelona<\/a> (the Spanish university with the most highly cited researchers) also appear: Manel Esteller<\/strong>,\u00a0Josep M. Haro<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Rosa Mar\u00eda Lamuela<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What does the Highly Cited Researchers<\/a> list refer to?<\/h2>\n

The Clarivate Analytics list, also known as the Highly Cited Researchers<\/em><\/a> list, identifies the most influential scientists in the world \u2013 those who are among the top 1% most cited in their speciality. This is one of the most reputable classifications in the international scientific and academic communities. It features\u00a0over 6,000 of the most important scientists in the world across 21 scientific fields, from clinical medicine and neuroscience, to economy, agriculture and the environment.<\/p>\n

Of the more than 6,000 professionals who appear on the list, 119 are investigators working in Spanish institutions; 13 in the Hospital Cl\u00ednic<\/a> \u2013 IDIBAPS<\/a> and 5 form part of the barnacl\u00ednic+ medical team<\/a>.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Dr. Josep Dalmau<\/h5>\n

\"Dr.<\/p>\n

Dr\u00a0Josep Dalmau<\/strong><\/a>, a\u00a0barnacl\u00ednic+\u00a0Neurology<\/a><\/strong> specialist, is an ICREA investigator, consultant in the\u00a0Neurology department at the Hospital Cl\u00ednic<\/a>\u00a0and an associate lecturer of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, and lecturer of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an expert in neuro-oncology, paraneoplastic syndromes and autoimmune encephalitis and, last year, he received the Rey Jaime I Award for medical research<\/a>\u00a0for his work in the field of neurology and psychiatry. He leads the Clinical Neuroimmunology and Experimental Autoimmune Encephalitis<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>program\u00a0in the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ram\u00f3n Estruch<\/h5>\n

Dr Ramon Estruch<\/strong><\/a> is a specialist in the barnacl\u00ednic+ department of Internal Medicine<\/strong><\/a> and Senior Consultant in the same department at\u00a0Hospital Cl\u00ednic de Barcelona<\/a>. He is also an Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the\u00a0University of Barcelona<\/a>. His main lines of research are: Effects of the Mediterranean diet on cardiovascular diseases and cancer; Mechanisms of the effects of moderate consumption of wine and beer on health and; Effects of olive oil, nuts, tomatoes and cocoa on blood pressure, lipid profile and inflammatory biomarkers related to arteriosclerosis.\u00a0His article \u201cPrimary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease with a Mediterranean Diet\u201d<\/a> published in\u00a0The New England Journal of Medicine<\/a>, was the most read scientific article in the world during 2013 and continues to be a source of reference.<\/p>\n

Dr. Francesc Graus<\/strong><\/h5>\n

\"Dr.<\/p>\n

Dr\u00a0Francesc Graus<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is a\u00a0barnacl\u00ednic+<\/strong> Neurology<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>specialist. He is also Head of the\u00a0Neurology Department at Hospital Cl\u00ednic<\/a>. Dr Graus is a\u00a0world-renowned expert in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours<\/strong>,\u00a0neurological complications of cancer\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0transplant in multiple sclerosis<\/strong>. He conducts his research activity with the\u00a0IDIBAPS.<\/strong> team, and primarily studies the immunogenesis of paraneoplastic neurological diseases. Worthy of note among his medical milestones is the development of a patent, along with Dr\u00a0Josep Dalmau<\/strong><\/a>, for the diagnosis and treatment of an autoimmune disease associated with neurodegenerative processes and sleep disorder<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Eduard Tolosa<\/h5>\n

\"Dr.<\/p>\n

Dr\u00a0Eduard Tolosa<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0also forms part of the barnacl\u00ednic+<\/strong> Neurology<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0team and is a specialist in the treatment of movement disorders<\/strong>.\u00a0He is an emeritus professor of the\u00a0University of Barcelona<\/a> and an\u00a0IDIBAPS<\/a> investigator. His research activity focuses on the clinical, neuropathological and therapeutic aspects of synucleinopathies; a group of neurodegenerative diseases. Worthy of note among his medical milestones is his participation, in 1989, in the foundation of the\u00a0Hospital Cl\u00ednic-IDIBAPS Neurological Tissue Bank<\/a>. The aim of this bank, which is still an active leading bank today, is to obtain and store samples of nerve tissue from patients who have died as a result of degenerative diseases for subsequent research.<\/p>\n

Dr. Eduard Vieta<\/h5>\n

\"Dr.<\/p>\n

Dr\u00a0Eduard Vieta<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>forms part of the barnacl\u00ednic+ psychiatry team<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0A world-renowned expert in the diagnosis and treatment of <\/strong>bipolar disorder<\/a>, he is Head of Psychiatry and Psychology at\u00a0Hospital Cl\u00ednic de Barcelona<\/a> and a lecturer at the\u00a0University of Barcelona<\/a>. He is one of the most influential scientists in his field, he is conducting research in the\u00a0IDIBAPS<\/a> Bipolar Disorder <\/em>group<\/em><\/a>, which focuses on studying the causes and pharmacological and psychological treatment of\u00a0bipolar\u00a0disorder<\/a>. His unit is a world-leader in the treatment, research and teaching of this disease. Last year, he was named best researcher of the year by the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP)<\/a>.<\/p>\n
