Femoroplasty, a pioneering innovation to settle problems with a hip-prosthetic
Hospital Clínic is a pioneer in Spain in the use of femoroplasty, an innovative technique in which sanitary cement is injected around the hip-prosthetic, inside the femur, to recover stability and so achieve an improvement in pain and recover the patient’s mobility. Dr. Jenaro Fernández-Valencia, head of the Hip Section of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Surgery Service at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and professional at barnaclínic+, is one of the people in charge of the design of the protocol and introduction of this technique.

Dr. Fernández-Valencia performs hip replacement surgery without hospitalisation for the first time in Spain
Hospital Clínic de Barcelona has performed, for the first time in Spain, a hip replacement surgery without the need for hospitalisation. Although in recent years it had been possible to cut the hospitalisation time in half (from 7 days to 3.5 days), the operation had not been possible without hospitalising the patient. The intervention was carried out by Dr. Jenaro Fernández-Valencia, from the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service and Head of the Hip Section of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and barnaclínic+.
